Color Distortion: bright projector, but the color is terribly distorted with the redish-yellowish backroud (such as human skin, face portrait), Problem occurs under all modes: movie, bright, presentation, etc. I use HDMI Cable so this is no connection problem. You can adjust color become nature only if you disable the BriliantColor function by setting it to 0-2. but then the brightness is totally compromised, the picture will become very dim.

Resolution: This is a 16:10 projector, NOT 16:9, which is mistakenly stated on many website as native 1280×720. The real native resolution is 1280×800. I dont know why the picture become gray and much darker if you use standard 16:9 mode: 1280×720@60Hz.

Overall: HD66 is absolutely not a choice for people who prefer color quality. But it’s okay to be a low level buisness projector which needs more brightness rather than color/contrast.

Very Disappointed.

The images produced from this projector are unbelievably sharp and the color is so rich you won’t believe your eyes that a projector for under $700 can work this well. IMHO there is no need to buy any other projector no matter what the price is. It is a 720P native projector but operates at 1080P with a blueray player with HDMI connector, and at 1080i with VGA connector (supplied with unit).

I bought the HD66 (and subsequently returned it) based on the reviews on the web, and from other users. It’s a great projector, and is very sharp. Once you calibrate the settings, the HD-movies will appear flawless (or expose flaws). I played some of my PS3 games on it, and watched some Blu-ray movies, and its definitely great quality. I do not see any issues with the contrast, despite what some folks said on this website.

However, if you are sensitive to the rainbow effect – and it really comes out with the higher contrast movies and games, it may annoy you enough that you cannot tolerate it. The rainbow effect probably only applies to a small part of the population, but it stood out more during movies (and games), with high contrast.

Otherwise, if you can handle the rainbow effect or can’t perceive it, it’s a great buy. Otherwise, I would stick to LCD Projectors – and my old Hitachi CP-RX60, even running at component at 720p, had a better picture and contrast than the Optoma HD-66.

Just got this in the mail a few days ago. All i can say is WOW! A big step up from a 800×600 native projector (EP721). There’s one thing i didn’t like about it though…

120hz seems to only work on 720P and lower. It’s native resolution is 1280×800, which is only @60hz. Making video playback jittery. If there is a way to make it progressive @ 1280×800, please let me know. Comment the review.

Other than that, This is a great projector. Go for it!

I bought this projector for watching movies and video games, and its doing remarkably well. The picture is clean and crystal clear. The HDMI port makes your Blu-ray connectivity easy. This projector is 3D ready as long as you have the appropriate glasses, i cant wait to see how Avatar is going to look on my 4 by 7 1/2 foot screen. It came 2 days early and snugly packed in a box. I do not notice any of the “color wheel effect” Great buy.

The UPS driver left a $700 projector sitting on my front lawn, so make sure you are there when it arrives.
