HDTV’s Surging Popularity

This year alone sales of HDTVs is expected to reach 20 million. In fact, HDTV sales is on track to post a one week record shortly before the Super Bowl, as fans to want to enjoy the big game in all of its high-definition glory. HDTV comes in different prices and sizes. Whether it is DLP, LCD and Plasma. Consumers are confused on what to buy because of their unfamiliarity with the technology.

Studies show that nearly 60% of HDTV buyers are not sure on the difference between LCD, Plasma and Micro Display. Many HDTV shoppers do take time to research but still need to be guided on which product is appropriate for their demands and budget.

Cable companies have strengthened the demand for HDTV, as there is already 17 channels that offer HD programming. In addition, HDTV prices have sharply dropped over the past year and some sets cost as lows $1,500.

Comcast has reported that its roster of HDTV customer agents has ballooned to 1,100 and they answer queries and take orders from subscribers. The company has also deployed 1,100 HDTV technicians to assist in setting-up the products at homes.

Terminology of HDTV

HDTV – a new breed of TV that combines the capabilites of a HD-tuner and HD-ready display. Nearly all of HDTV’s being sold in the market today use the 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. An HDTV tuner can receive analog and digital broadcasts over-the-air.

HD–compatible TV- only composes the high-resolution display. Can only accept digital broadcasts if hooked with a separate HDTV tuner. HD-compatible TVs can have the 16:9 widescreen ratio or the square-ish 4:3 aspect ratio.

Starting on HDTV

A recent study by the Consumer Electronics Association indicated that 71% on consumers it has surveyed plans to purchase an HDTV set soon are already planning and saving up. However, one reality in the consumer market today is that store do have the right number salespeople that have a good grasp on new technoliges.

Most are more concerned on making a quick sale rather than making it easy for the consumer to understand what he is going through. Translating or explaining complicated technology terms is never an easy task.

It’s hard enought to expain the difference between HDTV and analog TV and it will be more complicated to clearly tell the difference between HDTV and EDTV.

Setting up HDTV

When you decide to jump into HDTV give yourself time to become familiar with the technology. An HDTV setup normally consists of the following, HD-ready TV, receiver, antenna and HDTV service provider. Many HDTV’s nowadays already have a built-in tuner, eliminating the need to purchase an independent box.

Give Up The Antenna And Get Cable?

by High Definition on January 12, 2010

I have been trying to convince my aunty for months to give up the antenna on her roof and turn over to cable. She is not hurting for money and cable television would truly help her fill up her day while she is at home taking care of her mother.

She does watch TV but she watches the same channel all day long. I keep telling her of all the cool things about HDTVs and how she could easily switch out her old antenna and change it with a newer antenna, which would give her higher quality pictures, but she won’t make the switch.

I guess people just don’t like change. I know it is not a money thing because she has a lot of it and I even offered to buy her one. Her response was, “I already have a television”. I guess my big push for an HDTV comes from my own experience with them. We live in a very small municipality in Texas.

We don’t have much in the form of amusement so we depend on our tv for our nightly recreation and parties. When I saw the clear pictures at our local Circuit City, I was stunned and immediately hooked. Then I heard about the antenna you can buy either for the outdoors or indoors.

I thought this was great because our cable company charges an arm and a leg for the new channels. All we needed to do was pay for the antenna one time. We installed the indoor one in a matter of minutes. As soon as we turned our HDTV on, it scans the channels and picked them all up, I was so excited.

Now, I watch all the great high quality picture shows on channels like TBS and the most popular ones like CBS and NBC. Watching television was never as pleasant as it is now. It’s like the people are sitting in your den with you or you are with them in whatever place they are.

The History Channel makes you feel like you have transported yourself from the little town you live in to just anywhere in the world. I love this tv and I just wish my loved ones would see.

I don’t know, I guess one of these days someone in the family will get in touch with the present and buy themselves a nice HDTV. Until then they will just continue to watch their little 21″ out of date junkie Televisions.

High Definition Products in Our Daily Lives

by High Definition on January 6, 2010

The Progress Goes On and On

Let’s take for an example what we had ten years ago. Who could imagine that we’ll be able to have something like an HDTV with such awesome image quality? Who could imagine, ten years ago, that in 2009 there will be such things as MP4 players with 60 Gigabytes capacity? Did anyone heard about such things like HDMI cables, in 1999? These things were brought up just recently and they don’t stop to develop. Modern developers work and think faster than those, who worked before them. As for now, coaxial cable is not good enough for quality image. People want better, they want the best – HDMI cables are a new step to better image on our TV sets.

The same is about our computers. At the present day, a computer is not only a thing meant for some electronic works with several primitive games. A computer nowadays is a station of high definition graphics, which includes games with close to reality graphics and sounds, music center, a printing machine, a video player, and the list can go on and on. Along with the mentioned features, modern computer hardware and software allows the information to flow unbelievably fast. Now, we can store huge volumes of information on such small things as 1,5” SATA flash drives. It really sounds unbelievable. Can you imagine what would people say ten years in past, if they would have heard of things like these? They would probably simply laugh on this.

There are odd cases, when you can find CRT TVs. You would mostly find HDTVs, and as a matter of fact, people can’t imagine old fashioned TV sets. People get used to good quality, or as it’s called today – High Definition. And, nevertheless, people don’t seem any discomfort because of these new technologies – they are ready to buy all the accessories and new additions, including HDMI cables, Blu-ray DVD players, new home cinemas, etc.

People love things related to good, or better said, excellent quality, because when they have these things, they consider them something like the indication of better living. And people love it when life gets better. Quality visual devices, like HDTVs and Blu-ray DVD players, will soon replace things we were in common with – CRT TVs, DVD players, VHS players, etc. Even video consoles are extremely different from what we’ve known in the 90’s. Such things like XboX 360, Sony PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii are also related to High Definition products.

Very soon, we will forget about things that don’t relate to HD products. This is the development of the way we live, the things we use, and the way we consider quality and not quality things. We move towards better life and it’s not the thing to regret.

New To New York And High Definition Television

by High Definition on January 1, 2010

When I graduated from college and decided to move to the big apple, I knew that cash was going to be spent wisely. I managed to undertake an apartment for much lower than I had foreseen but I still knew I needed money for utilities and other needed items.

I have a satisfactory job but it doesn’t pay enough money to supply me with much disposable income. So I needed to see ways to cut corners anyway practical. I started to visit yard sales to acquire any miscellaneous items for decorating my pad.

I also searched through clearance bins and collected as many coupons as I could for department stores. I was quickly discovery things that are my style and saving stacks of money. Another important part of my living status is entertainment.

I am not big on music, but I am big on watching TV. I knew I had to invest in a good television if I invested in anything. I was even prepared to eat tuna every night for a month so I could gather up enough money for an HDTV.

I am not a typical early 19 year old who just places everything I can’t afford on a charge card. Instead, I will make sacrifices so I can pay for what I require with cash.

After I saved enough money, I called the satellite company to see how more per month I would have to pay to have HD service. The cable company said that it would be almost $10 more a month.

I budgeted it into my financial situation and left the apartment to buy my first HDTV. When I arrived at the electronics store, all of the HDTVs overwhelmed me. I knew I didn’t want a huge tv but I desired one that was big enough.

While I was walking around, I couldn’t believe the HD pictures on the televisions. They were so sharp and I could hardly wait to get it in my apartment so I could watch my most favorite shows in HD.

I decided on a 52 inch because it seemed to be big enough for my living room. It looks marvelous against my picture window. I was even able to position my furnishings perfectly around it so when my friends come to party everyone can see what I have on.

I am even planning a party for all of my family and friends. The main feature will be some good pizza and a flick on my wonderful brand new HD television.
